Introduction to the Italian Biffi (BIFFI) Electric Actuator ICON 2000
source:original    date:2025-12-16

Features More than half a century ago, Biffi started to produce valve actuators and its innovation and the ability to face the challenges, has placed it in a leading position worldwide. In 1992 Biffi started to design the Smart Actuators that from the beginning, have been welcomed by the main users all over the world, with applications in the most diverse fields: from the oil platform to the tropical jungle, from the coldiberia to the rigorous desert climate. Today, with the birth of the ICON2000, we take another step towards easy use and convenient maintenance. Ad of the Smart Actuators The ICON2000 series, compared to traditional products, has the following smart features: Easy commissioning Theing phase is the most critical moment for an actuator. Often, a good commissioning allows to solve most of the problems that the actuator may encounter during its use. The commissioning of the smart actuator can be carried out via the field operation interface and the software provided, without having to remove a single screw, and it is therefore possible to greatly the commissioning time and increase reliability. Enhanced field operation interface The ICON2000 actuators have two display windows to show the dynamic and variables of the actuator. The upper window shows the position or torque dynamically, while the lower (two-line) shows specific alarm and warning information, etc. The position also be displayed in case of power failure and during manual operation. The actuator can be fully operated via the field operation buttons, without the need for other tools. The user can a password to prevent unauthorized operations. Diagnostics The internal circuit system, by constantly collecting information from the various sensors, can continuously monitor the condition of the act. After a comprehensive judgment processing, various alarm and warning information can be issued and directly displayed in a variety of languages without the need for complex code compilation. ⋯More updated more powerful, more advanced Simpler and more reliable structure, more convenient to use The reduction in the number of mechanical parts increases the reliability of the system and reduces costs. The high-strength aluminum alloy housing guarantees the use of the ICON2000 in the most severe environments. The double sealing system keeps dust and dampness outside product. The careful selection of internal components has increased the overall efficiency of the system (motor directly driving the gear), thus reducing the operating costs. Improving the ease of use the product has achieved the goal of reducing training costs. There is no need for encoding and decoding, the operating menu of the ICON2000 is simple and clear, there are multiple language choices (Italian, English, Spanish, Portuguese, French, German).

Internal sensors All internal sensors are non-contact types. Torque sensor The sensor, which measures motor speed directly, can detect the torque value with high precision, with an accuracy of 1% of the rated torque. Position sensor The sensor is a Hall effect enhanced encoder with a resolution of 10° of output shaft rotation, which is controlled by a dedicated low-power microprocessor. The sensor monitors the activity of the electric actuator and, even in the event of a power failure, can fully record, update, store, and display locally the position changes made during manual operation. Electronic card: state-of-the-art technology The control chip of this card uses a high-performance 16-bit Hitachi chip with 28Kb flash memory. This provides a high degree of adaptability and allows reprogramming when necessary. The internal connections have been carefully streamlined. The modular design of the card offers the system a variety of combination options. Performance of the basic model The basic model is a smart electric actuator with hardwired (point-to-point) connection. High standard: the basic model includes all major functions of the electric actuator. Automatic phase correction The system automatically identifies and corrects the phase, which prevents any unexpected errors in the turning sensor, thus protecting the valve. Phase loss correction This function prevents the motor fromheating in the event of a phase loss of the power supply and generates an alarm with a minimum time of 100 milliseconds, which is intended to prevent short-term of the system. If a phase loss occurs while the motor is in operation, the actuator will run to the end of the travel before the alarm and the power supply are cut. Motor thermal protection If the motor temperature exceeds the safety limit during operation, the thermostat will alarm and the input signal will be cut off. Val anti-jamming protection If there is no change in valve position within the set time after the signal input (valve open/valve close), the system will and the input signal will be cut off. The time can be set arbitrarily between 2 and 100 seconds. Anti-impact protection This function protect the motor and valve. If the torque limit is reached, this function prevents the valve from continuing to turn in the direction of increasing torque. Instantaneous reverse protection When the actuator is moving in one direction and the signal suddenly changes to a reverse signal, the unpredictable electrical surge that occurs can damage the motor. To prevent this phenomenon, interval time between two commands in opposite directions can be adjusted and set between 500 milliseconds and 5 seconds. Alarm The alarm signal is activated the operating state reaches the critical alarm. The alarm content is only displayed and the operation is not interrupted. Remote output contacts A total of four passive-locking contacts can be used as remote indicators. Any contact can be set to normally open or normally closed and can be set to any of the following functions

Contactor fault alarm As a key component within the actuator, the contactor status is continuously monitored Once a fault in the contactor is detected, an alarm is generated, and the operation is immediately prohibited. Maximum torque alarm During operation, if current torque exceeds the relevant set value, the operation of the actuator will be prohibited, and the system will generate an alarm. Photoelectric coupling remote control The actuator can be remotely controlled with 4, 3, or 2 wires through different connection methods of the junction box. The junction box can be connected in the ways: self-locking, momentary. Torque alarm bypass When opening the valve, the section of the stroke from 0% to20% can be set to ignore the torque alarm, and this function can allow the actuator to obtain the maximum starting torque. Local operation interface The local operation interface is designed to be simple and convenient to operate, and it can provide complete and clear information. Composition of the local operation interface - A-position selector that can be padlocked, used to select "local/off/remote" operation - Three buttons for "open/close/stop" control and menu browsing All buttons are recessed to prevent accidental operation Through the local operation interface, the field operator can set the following parameters: Basic parameters - position for open/close - Torque value for open/close valve - Position/torque display - Open/close valve controlled by torque position - Output contact - Emergency self-locking - Remote/local control Extended parameters - Timer parameters - Position servo amplifier - Field bus interface parameters - PID parameters - ⋯ The parameter setting menu is password protected, and three indicator lights of different colors can set to indicate valve open/close action, alarm, warning, intermediate position, and stroke end position. Added features Maintenance prediction Many components are under the monitoring of the control system - Contactor action count - Torque curve - Alarm data Log timer function module (T) The timer can be used for full stroke or partial stroke control. Through the local/remote operation interface, the following values can be set: - Can be during switching - The timer starts timing, adjustable from 1 second to 200 seconds, interval of 1 second - The timer stops timing, adjustable 1 second to 200 seconds, interval of 1 second - In opening the valve, the percentage of valve position when the timer starts - In the valve, the percentage of valve position when the timer starts
