An important change has taken place in the ownership of BIFFI, the Italian actuator manufacturer: following Emerson's 2017 acquisition of Pentair Valves & Controls, BIFFI entered the Emerson portfolio; Emerson is now consolidating its electric actuator product range under the Bettis brand.
Emerson's own description of its current electric actuators (such as the Bettis SCE300 and Bettis XTE3000) reads: "Our current product portfolio has evolved from innovative technologies developed by the Bettis™, Biffi™, EIM™ and Fisher™ brands." The Bettis XTE3000 intelligent multi-turn actuator, in particular, was created "by combining the Bettis brand with Biffi's expertise" and is manufactured in Houston, Texas.
1. Brand continuity, products keep shipping. BIFFI has over 70 years of history, with quarter-turn and multi-turn electric actuators widely used in oil & gas; under Emerson the technology and manufacturing continue, but newly purchased equipment will increasingly appear under the Bettis name;
2. Spares and service for existing users run through Emerson channels. Emerson's website still hosts BIFFI product pages (e.g., FCBB and FCBA series) — the transition is gradual;
3. A changed selection perspective. BIFFI, EIM, and Bettis all belong to the Emerson actuation group — for selection purposes they can be treated as complementary product lines within one group, each strong in electric, pneumatic, and electro-hydraulic drives.
